Hi:

Bret wanted to know about Nuka glazes, song celadons, chuns.

I've made some glazes that I believe are nukas. Basically they are high
silica, low alumina ash glazes. The suspended, undisolved silica gives
Nukas a wonderful white, deep quality.

I work with ash glazes a lot. I do an awful lot of testing and studying
mainly because I like it and I love seeing the results whether they are
good or bad. It's all useful information.

I've been working with a very nice ash that I get from a power plant in
Tennessee. Hopefully it's going to be available at suppliers soon. I did
some line blends with the ash and soda spar and found a good mix to be 60
spar and 40 ash. I then put this flux mixture into and Ian Currie recipe
Biaxial with Grolleg Kaolin and Silica. I got celedons, chuns, and one
good nuka. Here's the recipe and formula.

#34 cone 10 R
unispar 50 aka Minspar 37.50
Tenn woodash 25.0
Silica 37.50

suspend with about 2% macaloid or hectabrite

seger formula

K2O 0.099
Na2O 0.1211
CaO 0.704
MgO 0.076

Al2O3 0.239
P2O5 0.011

SiO2 3.609

Si/Al ratio 14.695 to 1

Allo Craig,

Was your woodash washed and if so, how many times?

Hi:

Sorry I forgot to address an important point here. The ash was unwashed.
