Dear Friends,=20
I am looking for the name of a new/different book on glaze calculation =
that was suggested some time ago by someone on clay art.. I believe that =
person also listed a website.. and I had put that info into a "save" =
file, but have managed to lose it somehow..

This particular book was touted as being quite unigue in its approach =
and was recommended for use with classes or to anyone interested in =
developing new glazes.

After trying unsuccessfully to locate it in the archives, I wonder if =
someone out here might remember that discussion. Thanks.

I suspect you're talking about Ian Currie? An *extremely* easy and
wonderful way to formulate glazes that even a mathmatically &/or
chemically challenged person can understand. He has 2 books out and
here's his web site.

Dear Von,
I recommended Ian Curries new "Revealing Glazes" book for a glaze class.
He has a solid appraoch to glaze chemistry and analysis through his 35
sectioned gridded tiles with variations made using little vet. syringes.
good book. It follows his Stoneware Glazes book.
I also like Lana Wilson's "right brain" approach to glaze chemistry in
her book (advertised in ceramics Monthly classified).

Dear Von Allen;

I wonder if you are thinking of the book, "Revealing Glazes" by Ian Currie?
Anyway, here is the ordering address for you, takes just a week, and Ian
offers quantity discounts for classes. There are ssome sample pages from
the book at the website. Ian Currie will be at NCECA 2001, and doing
workshops afterwards. Also, he'll be here again in the fall doing
workshops.
Good Luck! Hank in Eugene

Copies of the book "Revealing Glazes - Using the Grid Method" and also
"Stoneware Glazes - A Systematic Approach" can be purchased by
credit card via the author's website:

Von,

I don't know which specific book you are referring to but I'd like to
recommend one.

Just off the presses this year "Revealing GLazes: Using the Grid Method"
by Ian Currie. It has a web site which references and supports the
reading. Check out the web site. You can even purchase the book
directly from Ian on the web.

http://ian.currie.to/index.html

The book has a lot of good information in it and good color photographs
but Ian also has a good sense of humor. He included pictures of his
family members and a "snake proof chook (chicken) pen prior to the
evening reptilian feeding frenzy." As you read through the book , you
have to appreciate these little personal diversion.

Thanks to our very own Clayarter Barbara Brown and Bill Geisinger at
DeAnza College, I met Ian briefly when I was in San Francisco recently.
Although Ian and I only spoke for a short while, I appreciated and
respected both his breadth of knowledge of glazes and his ability to
explain things clearly, even to a beginner. I'd definitely rank him
among the glaze gurus of the world. (Don't worry Ron Roy you are still
my favorite)

Hi Von,

The Currie book is not about calculation but rather line blending. In case
it is calculation that you are interested in go to the Digtal Fire web page
and order a copy each of Magic of Fire and Magic of Fire 2.
