Dear Stephen;

There are probably many, but a common one is 80% Helmer/20% Neph Sye. Try
adding some titanium dioxide(say 6%) as an alternate.

Greetings all... I've got an opportunity to participate in a wood firing and
was hoping to try out some Helmar slip clay. I was hoping others have had
experience with Helmar and could suggest some flashing recipes.

Thanks, Stephen Sell

Slip for spray or dip: Helmer 70, Custer Feldspar 30 throws great too!
SPELLING ANNOUNCEMENT! Please Note: I am not trying to be part of the
spelling police. I just don't want any confusion that there might two
competing products, one named Helmer and another named Helmar. I see a lot
of people write Helmar instead of Helmer. If you want to know how I came up
with the name 25 years ago, get a map of Idaho. Locate Lewiston at the
junction of Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Follow US 95 north to Moscow,
Idaho. Follow state highway 8 east from Moscow. If your map has enough
detail, the little towns like Joel (where clayart member Jeanne Wood lives)
will show. Pass through Troy, then on to Deary and 3 miles east of Deary is
the town of Helmer. The Helmer mine is one mile north of Helmer and that is
why I named it Helmer Kaolin. I have always labeled the bags with the name
spelled Helmer so who knows how the name got started the other way, probably
a verbal message given over the phone resulting in someone's best guess as
to spelling. If everyone likes the name Helmar better and they want to use
that spelling, that's o.k. too. Helmar or Helmer, it's all the same clay.
Regards,
