18 karat gold in reduction

updated fri 1 dec 00

To all the curious about real gold in reduction.

I fired it to atleast ^018 and reduced and the gold seems fine.
I didn't have a shiny sample because I tried the gold on a "copper
sand type glaze" (I like the beauty of the gold sitting on a rough
surface.)

I did notice that the color of the gold wasn't as bright as previous
golds I have used in ox. but this could be due to the fact that I had
to be careful about scrubbing to hard on the gold surface. I used
the Hanovia brand gold this time, so I think it might just look a
little different from other brands. Previously I have used Duncan.
I'm looking forward to more experiments, got some nice results.

Sorry - I'm getting confused. I thought I understood this, until you talk
of brands of gold.

Are you applying small pieces of gold metal (don't laugh - my wife makes
jewellery, so small bits can be found...), or is this gold leaf or a gold
lustre of some kind?

Sorry for the confusion Richard, I am referring to real gold lustre
that comes in the very tiny bottles which is traditionally used in
oxidation and painted overtop of a shiny/smooth surface.
