"refractory slip" technique

Do any of you raku guru's know of a reasonably consistent refractory =
slip and firing technique that you are willing to share? I have just =
been using the slip from my reclaimed clay that I pass through a 50 mesh =
screen and then paint on the bispue fired pot. It works well on some =
forms, primarily spheres, bowls and irregular shapes but is highly =
inconsistent on flat tile pieces. I have a problem with a smoking type =
effect that often occurs (I am after the high contrast of black to =
white, not a smokey, muddied surface.)
Thankyou,
Craig Dunn Clark
