I don't normally put in my two cent's worth BUT...
I can't believe the discussion about black clay which I assume is being made with manganese .
Don't use it.It is dangerous to your health.
How much clearer does the information have to be.
DON'T USE IT!

Thank you, Frank!
A few years ago I did some research into black clays and their availability.
The ones that are made with a stain and are a bit less hazardous are VERY
expensive. The clays, like Cassius for example, are definitely made with
manganese in varying quantities. I love the look of black clay, but have
stayed away from using it because there is no way one can escape the
toxicity, breathing the dust in the studio.

I seem to remember that sometime in the past year, we had a post
from Kickwheel which stated unequivocally that their black clay
(whose name escapes me momentarily) contains no manganese
whatsoever. I'm not endorsing it, and have never used it, but recall
that they said this, because I was surprised.

Chris--
I spoke with Kickwheel when I was doing this research. They have a black
clay that is made with a Drakenfeld stain. Check the price. It was
prohititively expensive for me. You may be able to afford it, but I
couldn't.
