I'm not positive of the availability date, but - any studio potter/clay
artist, old or new, would be wise to put this one on their "must have"
list. I've had the privilege of reading the preliminary work, and all
I can say is - get it first chance you have. There is truly remarkable
information in this work. It will go right up on your reference shelf
with other standbys, and you'll use it again and again.

Dannon and Vince,
The suspense will get to us all! I am sure there are many
Clayarters, who would love to get hold of this book as soon as possible.
So, Vince, please tell us when it is due out! Have mercy on us!
Anticipation is good, wetting our appetites is good too, but when can we
enjoy the feast?!
Thanks in advance.

Diane -
Aside from my teaching duties, this book has been my primary obsession for
the last five years. Last Tuesday I sent the manuscript back to the copy
editor, after reviewing her suggested corrections and changes, and I sent
all the photos and drawings off to the publisher. So aside from reviewing
the galley prints, I am done with it. Whew!!

It is being published by ACerS (American Ceramic Society), and if everything
stays on schedule it will be out in March before NCECA. After that you
should be able to get it on amazon.com or from your supplier. ACerS is
pretty good about getting their books out there.

Someone else asked me what is in the book besides the tiny tidbit on making
slab masks, so I might as well answer that quesiton here. As the title
(Clay: A Studio Handbook) implies, it is about damn near everything you
encounter in the ceramics studio as a student, a teacher, or an independent
studio artist at any level of involvement. It also includes lots of
information on designing, setting up, and operating a ceramics studio.
Best wishes -
- Vince

Awwww Dear Dannon -
You are a sweetie pie. I know you mean the above, and in all modesty I must
agree with you entirely about my book, but you are such a sweetie to post
this.

Dear List -
I am terribly embarassed. This message was written to my dear friend
Dannon, and OF COURSE I did not intend for it to go to the list, and it is a
little humiliating. It is cocky and obnoxious, and I appologize to all of
you.

Vince:
This is very exciting. Now we won't have to bug the heck out of you all the
time for info we ought to know, (haha). As much as we really love our Daniel
R. and Glenn Nelson texts, we've yet to find a really wonderful source.
Knowing you from Clayart, this will be a great addition to our arsenal of
clay books! I am very excited to see this baby, hot off the press!!!
Thanks for the info. Congratulations.
Diane

I had to go check this out. Sure enough, it is there, but Amazon is lying
through their teeth when they say it will be available in November of 2000.
Where the hell did they get that? If all goes well it MIGHT be out in March
of 2001.

Vince, no need to be embarrassed, or apologize. You have just joined
the rest of us goofy guys on clayart.

So you are can let your guard down. I love it. You do realize that
we are not going to let you forget this. Ah, just wait until we get
you in the clayart room.

I think it is great that Vince
gets the word out so efficiently
this way! Clayart is the bomb.

Dear Vince,
For what it is worth....I read your message as a delightfully exuberant
and proud (and relieved) statement of your feelings, certainly never
cocky, obnoxious, or anything like that. I suspect that that is how others
read it!
---Sincerely, Gail

Thanks to The Potter's Shop' s Stephen, my copy of Vinces new book arrive=
d
yesterday. It is a wonderful volume. "Monumental" would be my word for it=
=2E
not many pictures. Not an encyclopedia. More of an extensive and intensiv=
e
look at the entire discipline of potting. Can't imagine anyone who wouldn=
't
treasure this one as a "must have."

The fact that Vince is a Clayart brother, (met him briefly at NCECA in La=
s
Vegas) and that Stephen (also met there) responded with the book to my
e-mailed order which read something like this:" Hey, Stephen! Want to get=
a
copy of Vince's new book. Best, Roger" ... this in the impersonal new wor=
ld
of high tech ordering, well, it made me proud to be a part of Clayart.

Best,

Roger
