For the person looking for a clear glaze for a brown clay body,

I tested Patti's Crystal Clear( ^5-7) when I was looking for a glaze to =
use on coloured clays. I needed a glaze that was clear and would keep =
the colours reasonably true. Since then I have used it on Seattle =
Pottery's Vaschon Orange clay and with B-Mix (brushwork with Mason =
stains over and under the glaze). It crazed + + on Seattle's white =
paperclay.

It does contain gerstley borate so will need to be revised to frits or =
one of the substitutes that are now on the market. I was planning to =
test it using one of the Boraq formulas but it will probably be some =
time yet before I get around to it.

The orange/red clay body goes brown under this glaze and all the stains =
I used have worked well. It seems to be very stable with very little =
flow. It can go milky white where thick but I mix it really quite thin =
but a thin glaze coat provides a smooth glossy surface at ^5-6 in an =
electric kiln.

Here's the original recipe which I found in the clayart glaze database =
on the CeramicsWeb as well as the revised version I have been using. I =
don't remember why I made the revision, my notes are sadly lacking.=20
