I have been cruising the archives but it's almost impossible for me to match a color in words to a visual image. I am looking for a glaze the color of the patina on copper, irregular like that, darkish mossy greenish, not too shiny. I fire cone 6 oxidation. Does anybody know which of the nine zillion recipes might be that kind of color? thanks...kelly

Kelly
This is a glaze I only did one fairly large test on but will be working on
some more in the future. At least in my test it appears to meet your
requirements.

Barium Carb. 27.0
Neph Syenite 60.0
OM4 ball clay 10.0
Silica 9.0
Titanium Diox. 5.0
Copper Carb 5.0
Lithium Carb 1.0

Test was fired to cone 6 in oxidation or 2210 F according to my pyrometer. I
don't remember where I got the formula or even if I have modified it. Price
of the formula is that you let me know how it works if you decide to test it.

Good potting-Paul in undecided Florida-soon to be a desert.

Kelly was asking about statue-of-liberty green for cone 6 oxidation...

Hi Kelly,

If Paul's recipe doesn't work for you, you might try overspraying a darker
mat base (I use 8% Mason 6600 black) with the same base stained the green of
your choice (I use 1% copper carb or 3% mixed green stain from Bayer,
depending on which I have). Those little gravity-feed hopper guns let you
dial your spray pattern from fine to globular with the air pressure
adjustment. The darker base eats up the lighter overspray where it's thin;
if your first coat is wettish (a spray mister helps) when you spray coat
two, they will commingle a bit before they dry. Looks great but is harder to
control since the glaze wants to run off when you re-moisten it.

The advantage is that the color variation is under your complete control ...
