It is my experience that as elements age, they tend to flatten and need to be
replaced.

Please describe in more detail the flattening of the elements. What
temperature do you fire to? What type of grooves does your kiln have? What is
the approximate diameter of the element coil? To what extent do the coils
flatten?

I was going to respond earlier but wanted to know, first, if anyone else had
experienced flattened elements.

Hi Arnold!

Elements in some kilns do lose their shape ("flaten"). Normally this happens
with elements with larger gauge number wire (smaller diameter), even if they
are fired to only 03-04 range. The elements seem to become somewhat oval
shaped inside the groove.

Again, thank you for your support during the Paragon Kiln Repair Seminar at
the plant last weekend (Oct 27-28). Everyone had a good time and learned
lots!

Regards,

Tony
