| Holly, finally getting around to trying to make a hollow extrusion die
from
| David Hendley's directions, in which I didn't notice any spelling errors.
| But I would warn anyone trying it to remember that you have to leave room
| for the nuts on the U-bolts! Luckily, but not through foresight on my
part,
| the nuts just barely fit inside the extruder cap rim.

Oops, been there, done that!
When you are designing the die, put the die blank in the
die holder and draw a line on the die blank to remind yourself
of the outside limit for the nuts.
Likewise, a U-bolt nut can be too close to the opening in
the die that determines the extrusion, so it will mess up your
just-extruded clay.

If you run into these problems, you can gain a little more
room by grinding off one face of the nut, almost down to
the threads.
Do this by holding the nut in vice, oops vise-grip, pliers and
grinding with a bench grinder.
An open end wrench still works fine on a nut with one face
removed. Make sure the altered face ends up on the side
where the extra room is needed.
