To elaborate...

The glaze is in a bucket left over at the studio where the person who mixed
it died and no one has the recipe. Does Alfred or someplace else do such
testing to determine the recipe? It's a beautiful ^6 light green glaze.

Thanks,
Debbie McDysan

Debbie,

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe I am. Alfred's may
be able and willing to analyze the contents of your glaze bucket and tell
you what is in there. However, Alfred Labs doesn't know about Gerstley
Borate and Talc and EPK. They know about boron and magnesia and silica and
alumina. Their analysis may not help you much, and it would be likely to be
very costly, as you won't be able to tell them what, specifically, to look
for.

Pretty green glazes aren't all that hard to come by. If you do a search in
the Clayart archives, you will find a number of them. I have one I'd be glad
to send you if you like, which I got from Clayart.

Another alternative, if you really love this glaze, might be to take a
sample piece which has been glazed with it to local shows. You could inquire
of local potters as to whether they recognize it, and whether they might
know the recipe.

Are you _SURE_ you want to duplicate this glaze???

Sorry, the wording just struck me funny.

Sounds like a good plan.. But if you could get a good
image on a web page somewhere maybe someone on the
list could regconise it.. Heck maybe even me..; ) But
you will be lining your self up for a lot of tests,
since each monitor is a little different..
