fwd: faux pas - web developers...

Well Michael,

Nicely said.

The passion which underlay what some construe as 'harshness' I often enjoy ,
or at least I do not object..especially in the 'abstract'. I, 'myself' have
at times been perceived as harsh ...I suppose 'Bambi' would sometimes be
found harsh ...perhaps there ARE 'better' ways...yes, there are...but for
now...

I have had a little experience with 'web-designers/developers' and will
again later today...getting my 'little' web-site 'made'.

'They' require a lot of 'handling' it seems...as with so many
'professionals' whose heads occupy a bubble of presumption which blinds them
to the repeated heartfelt imploreings of their 'customer'. They 'look at
you' (if at all) with eyes that assume an alabaster coolness or
'removedness'...or worse.

....one is tempted to exclaim: "HELLO--?!?!?!?"

"THEY"?

The 'they' in my 'limited' experience...
....a 'small' sampling, to be sure...

Truth be told...I suppose...I allways inflict my 'taste' on my Customers
too...I ask 'em how, if they REALLY want something that is not at all what I
like, or would 'do', then WHY THE HELL ARE THEY BOTHERING ME with their
project/thing/whatever?
(Laughter)

So...I can sympathise with 'em somewhat...

'sic sempler tyrannus...'?

.... 'soon' me little web-site' will assume the happy configuration i have so
adroitly - naively- (and with the persistance and patience of a minor Saint)
continued to gently 'insist' on.

Designer No '1' has ceased to speak with me 'ever-again' it seems...No '2'
is nearing the elastic limits of his thinly veiled, and rather brittle
attempts to imitate the likeness of continueing 'good-will'.
The 'final' 'fall-back' I hope will be the cursorial sweep of contemptuous
'indulgence' to 'give-me-my-way' (HURRAH!) and get the damned thing out of
his hair...

Wish me luck!

Philip

Subject: faux pas

I apologize to the group for my harsh response regarding "experienced web
developers". We all have our own way of looking at the world; personally
generalities bother me because they paint with such a wide brush. Not to say
I don't do it myself but I strive not to throw the baby out with the bath
water. My choice of subject title was actually a literary allusion to a
quote from Herbert Spencer (lots of info on the web about him) who believed
in social Darwinism. The quote in its entirety is:

"There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof
against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting
ignorance- that principle is contempt prior to investigation."

Caveat Emptor (buyer beware)
I would like to add a bit of trivia.
The Latin saying above came about from a court case in ancient Rome
involving a consumer and a potter. Apparently it was a practice among the
less reputable potteries to fill cracks in vessels with colored wax and
blend it in so the pots could be sold to unwitting customers. Someone who
had purchased one of these "repaired" pots used it to hold hot liquids,
which melted the wax revealing the crack. The case went to court and the
judge sided with the potter saying it was the consumer's responsibility to
know what they were buying. However, the judge also said that the potteries
had to make this known and were required to post a sign in their showrooms
saying "Caveat Emptor".

Sincere
>From the Latin sine (without) and cero (smearing or covering with wax).
