Earl,
I have managed to get some very good copper reds using silicon carbide
in oxidation. I even added a small amount to my copper reds which were
fired in the gas kiln, to ensure getting the right reduction for the
glazes. However, I found that adding silicon carbide to other glazes,
meant to be fired in a reduction atmosphere, did little good. In order to
achieve crater glazes in any atmosphere silicon carbide has to be added to
the glaze.The tenmoku results of firing in an electric kiln vary from those
fired in a reduction atmosphere. However it is possible to get very nice
tenmokus in oxidation, depending on the glaze recipe that is used. Mia in
