Clayarters,

Recently after reading posts about vents and glaze mixing I have came up =
with
two potential ways to accomplish the venting and maybe a better way for t=
hose
who wish to try it, a mixer system.
Most shop vacs have a strong pull (Vacuum) and also a place on top for ai=
r to
be vented out. A box could be built with demensions that would accept a f=
ilter
as well as re-adapting a line to the top of the shop vac and send the ove=
r
flow out a vent pipe to the outside.
Also since shop vacs can handle some water I would suggest using a little=

water in the drum to trap those minute particles that would other-wise fl=
oat
around outside.
Spray only water based products in this however and make the system where=
they
are some space between the filter housing and the back of the enclosure s=
o you
can get a good pull through it.
Now the other- When I owned my business where I manufactured art colorant=
s and
pigment and oxide mixtures I started with a sears adjustable drill press.=
I
bought a stainless stell rod that was pre-drilled to hold a small saw-too=
th
blade and tightened it with a chuck and went to work. These presses are n=
ot
much higher than a good drill but you will pay a bit more for the rod and=

blade. (Can't remember who makes those blades? but will try to find out i=
f
anyone gets interested in it).
Since the drill press operates at various speeds I would take my 5 gallon=

compounds and adjust the RPM so I had a good mix going but without suctio=
n.
This type of blade would grind the largest oxide or pigment almost as wel=
l as
the ball mills I latter went to using. Very close to a homogenizer in som=
e
ways. Latter of course I went more commercial but this may give some of y=
ou
some ideas. It you find it interesting, let me know? A standard mixing wi=
ll
not always break down a particle well enough or dissolve it. Of course yo=
u
have the strainers and according to those sieves I have priced you can al=
most
buy the rig I am speaking of for nearly the same costs.
