HANDBUILDING SCULPTURAL FORMS:
A WORKSHOP WITH BILL GRIFFITH
During this weekend demonstration workshop, Bill Griffith will share his
unique handbuilding process, building two sculptural forms using the wheel
as a departure point then assembling both thrown and handbuilt components to
complete the pieces. Demonstrations, slide lectures and conversation will
trace the evolution and development of his forms, which are inspired from
ancient architecture, ruins and man-made objects that he encountered in his
extensive travels. Bill Griffith, assistant director of Arrowmont School of
Arts and Crafts in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, exhibits his work and leads
workshops nation wide. He has done extensive pottery research and travel in
Taiwan, Ecuador, Peru and Japan and has been featured in numerous
publications.
