This potter uses a potter's thumb, a real one not one of those wooden =
substitutes, to smear depress a hemispherical depression into the body =
of the tea pot. When the clay has dried a little more, the holes are =
perforated with a specially made tool which leaves a clean sharp edge on =
both sides of the aperture. For an illustration, see "Basic Teapots", =
Pottery Making Illustrated, round about volume 1 no 2 for an article =
about Teapot Design.
