Posts like this are why I still read clayart. My hammer has been flying
wildly lately and I can no longer read the letters on my delete key. Tha=
nk
you Ralph for making me want to keep reading. I will have to sharpen my =
pick
as I am newly reassured that there is gold in them thar clayart hills.

Thank you. I am going to apply your technique to flat tile work, though,=
as I
have been having depth guage problems in carving high bas relief. If I p=
ut a
grid of thumbtacks, (or longer carpet tacks, or Bighaass nails, Swedish
imports, for thicker work) in the flat tile, then flip it over and begin
carving, building, and digging out again, I will be assured of not cutti=
ng
through. When I pull the thumbtacks out of the back when it is leather ha=
rd, I
will have a smooth grid of air holes to assist in the outgassing as I fir=
e
it.

Thank you, thank you, thank you.
