glazes for dark clay

Hey, Chris and Roger, if you guys like this dark clay so much, why not
contemplate leaving the outside all or mostly unglazed? Take a look at Cindy
Strnad's site, which includes a number of really nice pieces made of dark
clay, carved and left unglazed.

In a couple pieces, she has glazed the top and bottom of the vessel in a
color - the blue looks very nice - (yeah, yeah, OK, I like blue. So shoot
me) and left the middle third unglazed, and carved that middle third.

I mean, if you like the clay so much, why cover it all up?

Wow, thanks, Carrie.

Yes, I like my clay, and I even paint it with iron oxide wash to make it
darker. This also makes it really difficult to photograph, but I'm working
on it. So if you do check out my site, please overlook the bad photography.
It's very much under construction.

I like to glaze it because I've found a glaze that goes iridescent in high
fire. Very cool! But I think most of it is the clay cause the glaze sucks
on white clay!
