One of the tapes "Potters of the USA" that Richard Peerler and his wife Marj
produced for McGraw Hill has portion devoted to Charles Counts. It shows him
working and talking. He says in the video, "I don't like lids that just
kinda fit." It goes on to show his technique for making his lids really
tight. He seems like a wonderful teacher and potter in the film. The films
also cover, T. Takaezu (sp? sorry) W. Mackinzie (sp...double sorry), Franz
Wildenhien (Gosh...I am ashamed of my spelling of these well known artists),
Otto and Vivika and quite a few others.

I am really fond of "Potters of Japan" tapes also. Mr. Peeler told me many
stories about his visits to Japan and I often imagine what it must have been
like to be one of the first western artists to document some of the studios
there. I laugh when I remember the answer one potter told Richard when he
asked how hot they fire their kiln and the Master Potter told him, "Not too
hot not to cold, it has to be just right."

Since Mr. Peeler died Marj and I have been talking about what to do about
people that would like to obtain copies of these tapes that at one time were
some of the most popular ceramic instruction tapes available.

I'm an 'apprentice' potter and would also be interested in an opportunity to
view the tapes you speak of. They sound like jewels...
