Hello,

I have been asked to pass this announcement on to the group:

Over the last few years, there has grown an ever-increasing number of
independent artists and craftspersons working in the central Iowa region,
specifically in the city of Ames and its surrounding communities. There
exists a severe shortage, however, in affordable, conveniently located
studio space for these individuals and groups to work in. In an effort to
address this challenge, a group is now forming in Ames for the purposes of
helping to foster the rapidly growing arts community in and surrounding the
city of Ames, Iowa, primarily by providing access to individual and shared
studio space. The group is working under the name Creative Artists'
Studios of Ames (CASA) and currently consists of about a dozen supporters
mostly working in clay, associated with Iowa State University, The Octagon
Center for the Arts, and private individuals.

The intention of CASA is to incorporate as a no-profit entity, and would
serve as a coordinating body. It is envisioned that CASA would rent the
necessary space in a suitable building from the building's owners, renovate
as necessary, then would sublet space to individuals and groups
themselves. They also the hope and intent that at some future date, they
would be in a position to purchase the building outright, providing a
sufficient clientele base and adequate funding were available.

Recently, a large, modern multi-story building has become available within
one block of the Iowa State University campus. The building recently
housed a large church congregation which is soon to be moving to new
facilities. The buildings and property have been purchased by another
nearby church, primarily for its parking lot. They intend to use only a
small portion of the building for their education programming, making the
large majority of the building available for other non-profit entities to
occupy. CASA has approached the new owners with the idea of using the
space to house artists' studios and they are very receptive to the idea
proposed. The available space would be large enough to accommodate not
only pottery, but artists working in other craft and fine art fields.

CASA is currently in the "brainstorming" phase and is in conversation with
the University and the Octagon Center for the Arts, both of which have
indicated a need for additional space for art/craft classes and for
graduate student studio space. All those interested in finding out more
about CASA and this endeavor are encouraged to:
