As a young nurse starting practice some years ago, I worked in a hospital in
an area with many textile and furniture plants. I noticed pretty quickly
that we sure had a lot of patients in with C.O.L.D.'s. Seemed strange to
have so many people in the hospital with simple colds. Then I noticed that
most of these patients sat leaning dramatically across their over-bed tables
gasping for breath and had a strange pallor and blue lips. Those simple
colds turned out to be Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease, with
obstructive being the key word. Can be caused by inhaling any particulates
into the lungs and it can happen just as easily in a home studio as in an
industrial setting. It was a long time ago, but the message stuck with me.
We need to constantly re-inforce the need for safety with each other.
