And Hank Murrow suggests; That you would want to look for a kaolin with
pretty high Titania content + highish iron too, tho the Ti is the critical
part, perhaps going some way toward explaining why Grolleg is so

Aha! I've messed with iron washes on English Grolleg on my anagama-fired pieces (~^11) with good result, but the bare body doesn't seem that "interesting" in its wood-ash interaction. I don't have the analysis (Clay Art Center English Grolleg), but what might be a good starting point for adding titania to the body?

I'm just looking for a guess here - I'll do some line blend testing.
