cone 6 translucent porcelain recipe

Here's a Porcelainous type body that was lurking in my clay body file. It's
translucent at cone 6. If you run out of Gerstley, you may want to try
subbing Ferro Frit 3134 or one of the new Gerstley substitutes. You may also
want to try a version using #6 Tile Clay instead of the EPK and see which you
prefer. You can also try another version of eliminating the EPK and upping
the Grolleg to 40.

C/4.5.6 White China Translucent

E.P.K. kaolin 20
Grolleg china clay 20
Kentucky ball clay 5
Nepheline syenite 30
Gerstley borate 5
Flint 20
Add: VGum-T 3%

Looking at the formula, it should be fine for throwing. It has more plastic
ingredients in it than some other porcelain bodies, i.e. the ball clay, the
V-Gum. Also, the epk and grolleg are plastic kaolin's. I would suggest to
get the best plasticity that you blunge the V-gum Tee in water overnight and
then add it to the rest of the claybody ingredients and then mix the body
more as a slip and then hang the slip in an old pillow case to drain and
store it for a couple of weeks before you use it. This will give you the
maximum plasticity out of the body.
In some places, they bury their porcelain for 20 years! If you're in a rush,
you can add some Vitamin C or vinegar or beer to the body and you can throw
with it in two or three days, but this only works if you use the body right
away. I don't know how much to add though; but other on the list might help
with that.
