I am looking for information on an old Duncan kiln. The model number is =
KM-400. I would like to know the internal size in cubic feet and the max =
operating temp. I would also like to know if parts are still available =
and where they can be purchased. Any information would be very helpful.

Thanks.

There are parts available for Duncan kiln. Paragon Industries picked up all
Duncan parts when Duncan ceased to manufacture kilns.

However, KM 400 is not the kiln's model number, hat is the Kiln Sitter's.
The model number should be in a data plate on the lower rights or left side
of the control box. It should also tell the Voltage, phase (like 1 ph or 3
ph), max. temp., etc. If you can get the correct model number, size of the
bricks (2 1/2" or 3") and the voltage either I or they can give you the
data.

Regards,

Tony

I can't swear that this is the correct model number as I have not seen it
I called the owner and asked her to look for it). She thinks it is DAO
0291. Is this a valid Duncan model?

Hi!

Duncan did have a model DA 1229 and several variations of it but no 1029.

Duncan kiln nomenclature is:

SERIES
First 2 digits are letters:
DK-Manual kiln with brick lid/bottom; the very frist produced
ES-Manuel kiln with fiber lid/bottom
DA-Automatic w/cone shut-off, brick lid/bottom
EA-Automatic w/cone shut-off, fiber lid/bottom
DB-Manuel kiln w/3" brick walls (DB 609 and 1027 only!)
DE-Electronic, brick lid/bottom

BASIC SIZES
The next digits (3 or 4) shows the size of the kiln:
092-12 1/4" round, 9" deep-fiber only
122-10 1/4" round, 12" deep fiber body
609-Paragon S-11-9-3 (manufactured as private label for Duncan)
714-7 sided, 13 1/2" deep, 3" wall brick
716-7 sided, 15 1/4" deep (discontinued-replaced by the 714)
820-8 sided, 19" 3/4" deep
829-8 sided, 28 3/4" deep (discontinued, too hard to load)
1020-10 sided, 19 3/4" deep
1027-10 sided, 28 3/4" deep, 3" wall (brick lid/bottom only)
1229-12 sided, 28 3/4" deep (discontinued model)

SUFFIXES
Last digits that appear at the end of the model number
1-240 Volt w/Kiln Sitter (Duncan called the Kiln Sitter their Automatic
Shut-Off Device or ASD)
2-240 Volts w/ Kiln Sitter and Limit Safety Timer
3-208 Volts w/ Kiln Sitter
4-208 Votls w/ Kiln Sitter and Limit Safety Timer
Overseas kilns had different safety requirements like a switch on the lid so
that when the kiln is opened while it is being fires it will off.
A-Australia
c-Canada
E-England
F-France
G-Germany
L-Latin America
S-Spain
X-Collar that could be added for increased depth

I hope this information helps you and anyone else who reads it.

Regards,

Tony
