A professional potter firing exclusively with wood, Svend has designed and=
=20
built four large wood kilns at his studio the Duck Pool Cottage and still=20
amazingly finds time to build wood fire kilns for various=20
organizations. Varying in capacity from 250-800 cubic feet. All of the=20
kilns at Duck Pool have been based on the cross-draught wood fired kilns of=
=20
the Far East. Svend believes that the kiln is more than simply a means of=
=20
hardening his pots. To varying degrees, the kiln also decorates his=20
work. Wood firing is a labor intensive method, the disadvantages of having=
=20
to care for large amounts of wood and the extended firing times are more=20
than compensated for by the warm, sometimes subtle, often dramatic colors=20
and textures provided by the wood fire flashing.
