Talk about workshops! Vince’s was everything I’d wanted and more;
challenging ideas, hands-on opportunity, and a great ‘summer camp for
adults’ as well. Not to mention the scrumptious food, partly from Mike
McDowell’s beautifully run farm and partly barbecued by Vince, all
skillfully coordinated by Erin Hayes, who teaches potting locally.

Vince is a fund of both information and inspiration for potter’s of all
skill levels. This workshop focussed on handbuilding; the one currently
in action will feature pitfiring (Ancient Clay workshop). He also offers
colored clay workshops, and others. Some of this will be covered in a
book he has forthcoming in the Spring. Those who have encountered him at
the NCECA Tool Doctor’s seminar or in workshops know it’s bound to be
good.

Now I’m hoping a series of his workshops can get going on the lower
West Coast… Maybe next summer, when his responsibilities at the
Appalacian Crafts Center in Tennessee are minimal? Seems like we should
act before he gets even more in demand. If there are any West Coasters
reading this, could you get in touch with me and see if we can
coordinate timing?
