I wonder if John could check on the data base for references to "clay" =
and "earthenware", and "potsherds"/?
Many years ago I briefly had an idea to try calligraphy on clay scrolls, =
and call them the "Dead Sea Scrolls". (The clay would come from the silt =
of an ancient inland sea which dried up here some millions of years =
ago.) Probably luckily for posterity, I haven't got round to it yet!!
One biblical quote I had saved was "Will the pot contend with the the =
potter, or the earthenware with the hand that shapes it? Will the clay =
ask the potters what they are making. Or their handiwork say "You have =
no skill"?" Isaiah 45..9.
Can't remember where I saw the quote, but I searched and found an old =
family bible, at least 70 years old, and looked up the same verse. This =
version (King James) said: " Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker =
! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the =
clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He =
hath no hands?
