I'm sure the peter pugger hybrids are great tools but consider a venco 4"
deairing pugmill and a soldner clay mixer before dumping $7K in a deairing
peter pugger. The small difference in price will be well worth going with
the dedicated machines...

Marshal,

Re your post (below), My deairing Peter Pugger/mixer cost 4K. Though I
checked around and got many different prices, I didn't find anything as high
as 7K. I bought it last fall--just wanted to clarify.

My contact at Potclays, Harry Fraser, wrote the following concerning
pugmills. It might help others in searching for the right model for them.

have to say that I have looked at various de-airers in the UK and models
from Italy, Germany, Taiwan and elsewhere and I still haven't come across
one which is better value than the Venco. There is a very good Italian
machine with a performance as good as the Venco and perhaps better
engineered - but it is almost three times the price. The Taiwanese one is
cheaper but I think is inferior in performance and reliability. I have
talked with people who have used the ingenious Peter Pugger and found it
good but would probably make the same recommendation as Marshall Talbott>
