doing business with spammers

Just hit the delete button, it really doesn't happen around
here that often.
Good advise, don't buy from them.
The ads on some web pages can be a different issue
sometimes. Sometimes free or reduced cost for the web page
is associated with running the ads. I just ignore them. If
it helps a clay bud get their stuff on the web, I'll
overlook it.

It has taken a while but the # of
annoyance junk mail/calls have reduced appreciably.
I agree that it is important to not buy anything

Best advice going.

I think there was a post recently suggesting we all follow the instructions
in the spam message to "unsubscribe" or such like.

DON'T.

It works like this:

a company buys a mailshot list of email addresses collected by web sites or
whatever over a period of time. They pay $X for an unknown quantity [hang
on, perhaps I should say unknown quality - confusing, English, ain't it?].

Everyone who bothers to contact them is doing them a huge commercial favour
of confirming that the email address
leads to a "live one" - you exist, you are current, you use your email.
Now, how much more valuable do you think that makes your email address on
the confirmed list that they can then sell on?

Rule 1:
Unless you subscribed to something (like a manufacturer's update list or
newsletter) - don't unsubscribe

Rule 2:
same sort of thing - if you didn't enter a competition, you haven't won a
prize

Rule 3:
hit the delete key

Not sure whether my earlier post on not using the default html-based email
got though - but that is also part of the problem (virus transmission,
rather than spamming).
