non-glaze finish question

I have seen some interesting work lately which is finished in encaustic,as in
the paint, not the tile technique. I looked it up, and it appears to be a
mixture
of pigment, melted beeswax and resin, which is heat set. I'd like to ask a
few questions of anyone who uses this.
Thanks,

I have not tried encaustics but have seen some work recently at Blue Spiral
1 in Asheville, North Carolina. I think their address is www.bluespiral1.com
I was told by an instructor that it is a very dangerous 'sport'.
However there was a class on it recently at Penland School also in North
Carolina. The info said that it was a safer method.
Penland is www.penland.org they would probably put you in touch with the
instructor.

The other thing that occurred to me after seeing the encaustic in person is
that it somewhat reminded me of 'wax' dolls. But then I am always making
weird connections--lol
