Hi:

Ian Currie has written another book on glazes that is published and
available thru his web site. I've seen a copy and recommend it in the
highest possible way. Myself and others associated with Clayart have used
his "grid method" to study many types of glazes and it's a very effective
tool. The best thing is, you don't have to be fluent in chemistry to
understand and learn from this book. It's very user friendly and contains a
lot more than just dry "how to do it" and "how to get there" stuff. It's a
glaze text with heart, humanity, and humor. Here's the web info:

"Revealing Glazes - Using the Grid Method" by Ian Currie (Bootstrap Press)

I just got my copy today, monday, and can confirm Craig's report fully.
Even after 43 years of continuous potting, Ian's grid method has taught me
fabulous new things about my materials. I hasten to say that both Craig's
and I have our pots and glazes mentioned in sidebars. Hey, if understanding
the materials we use (and their interactions) is a priority for you, you
could do no better than to look for one of Ian's workshops to attend this
fall. Ruth Ballou will be his stateside coordinator, as usual
. Cheers, Hank in Eugene

I just received a copy of Ian's new book,"Revealing Glazes; Using the
Grid Method".
For anyone trying to comprehend the structure of glaze materials, I
recommend this book.
There are exercises taking one through the grid process of 35 base
recipes with discussion on how to evaluate the results of testing. There
are also links to glaze calculation software, health hazards and
precautios and some very personable photos and insights into the
author's life.
I have never seen a book like this. I love it!
For those who have been to Ian's workshops, you might be able to add
something.
Anyway, it looks like a great book for glaze guru wannabes.
