potters workbook

I am so pleased to read Tony's comments on this workbook. I only had
room for one book in my suitcase flying back from NCECA and after
examining dozens of great books in Axner's Hospitality Room that I still
don't have in my library, this is the one I chose. I have already gotten
far more than my money's worth from doing the exercises. It's not a
how-to book .... but as the title
says, a workbook. However, every potter.... every single one except
Marta ... who noticed it, picked it up and looked it over ... made some
sort of disparaging grunt of dismissal. Grrrr. It's a great book for
novices and other serious potters who need to revisit forms. So I
forgive Tony his "lust" comment ... whether he wants forgiveness or not.
(Have you noted in your world travels that one way to make payback is to
"forgive" someone who doesn't want your forgiveness?? Yep. It's a
well-documented cross-cultural phenomenon.)

I love this book! I used it with my students during their spring session
and their pots improved by leaps and bounds. Just doing the exercises and
knowing that they were not to be saved freed the students enormously. All
of them improved their throwing habits, their ability to think about how to
"finish" a pot, their ability to understand how the elements of each piece
relate to each other.

Because they are recreational potters, and didn't have lots of studio time,
they got a little annoyed at having to do so many pieces, so I cut the
assignments in half...worked just as well.

This is a wonderful book....for all levels...
