I would like to report on the MATT WILT Workshop in Houston a couple weeks
ago. Matt was FANTASTIC ! He really pulled out all the stops. About 30
clay lovers gathered at Potter's Place in Sugar Land, Texas and we all had a
blast! It was a long day, but Matt was well prepared - we started out with
donuts & coffee and Matt demonstating his use of molds and his clay bodies.
Matt went to the wheel, worked a bit of magic then returned to a great demo
on Mold Making. For lunch we had slides with our pizza. Matt taught us how
to successfully set up a plaster-of-paris mold using a 3 demensional found
metal 'treasure'. He put the huge mass of clay sculpture together & sure
enough, it resembled the sketch he started out with !! Finally, we heard Matt
explain his glazing and firing tricks and saw some samples of his work.
Matt did a great job, with a little help from his wife, Melody Ellis. Melody
was kind enough to take time from her clay studio to come along. It was
wonderful - we had fun & I would encourage each of you to study with Matt at
Sam Houston State University, in Huntsville, Texas or at least at one of his
workshops.
FYI - both Matt and Melody will be having a show of their work at
GOLDSBERRY's GALLERY, off Kirby in Houston beginning July 8.
