Subject: Cone 6 ox. glaze test for Midnight Blue

Recipe

Whiting 17 Ball Clay 8 Kaolin 22 Potash 44

ADD Cobalt ox. 5% (or equiv. of colb. carb. and don't say 7.5%!)

This was an interesting glaze, producing a matted blue on the surface over
an almost black ground. The blue areas are the thickest areas and have a
purplish tone. Not a glaze attractive for eating articles, in my opinion,
but otherwise a nice decorative glaze. Brought up a lighter blue with a
transparent over it. Very mat surface by itself.

I am guessing that the "Potash 44" should be potash feldspar 44, other
wise there is very little silica in this glaze.
