It depends a bit on how the email software despatches post. Outlook/Outlook
Express are probably the most frequently found critters out there, and the
default setting out of the box for them is to send email in html format -
just like a web page - so we can all experience the glory that is
multimedia, right there in our in-tray.... The message is also sent encoded
as an attachment - in theory any email software that doesn't like html will
"just ignore it" and "transparently open the attached plain text message".
Yeah. This is an industry noted for its adherence to common standards, and
which thrives on a spirit of co-operation....

Unfortunately/Fortunately, there is a lot of software that won't have any
truck with this. In addition, it is the use of html-based email which opens
up the biggest security gap for virus attack.

HTML email is what enables folk to spam you with messages that fire up your
web browser and start costing you money on your phone line (OK - UK only) as
soon as you open the message. I really LOVE that. If it can do that, without
your control, think what else it can do.

Basically, we would all get on a lot easier if everyone who has
Outlook/Outlook Express changes the configuration (Tools/Options/etc) to use
plain text. It's quicker, cheaper, universally understandable (try sending
an html-based email to someone running Eudora on a Mac - they will hunt you
down and hit you until you stop moving....), and less prone to attack. If
you really must have fancy email with animations and flashing colours to
send to your favourite aunt, you can set up individual contacts in Outlook
to "always use html-based email".

Rant over. Carry on......

I have noticed that some of the posts have attachments to them. This
concerns me since it is files with attachments that carry the new wonderful
viruses. I delete these without opening them, but maybe something can be
done to resolve the issue of attachments. Or maybe it's just my paranoia.
Great job bythe way!
