Diane,

Some hardish clays are slightly thixotropic. One trick to get this =
effect working is to take your fresh bag of clay and drop it on the =
floor three or four times, turning it so that a different side slaps =
down each time. Another is to open the bag and pour half a pint of water =
in then re-seal it. Each day turn it over a quarter of a turn to let the =
water soak in. It will require kneading but it sould be soft and work =
much better. Once you have done this with a couple of bags you get a =
feel for the amount of water. If you have only a low output, these ideas =
may provide a solution. Whatever you do, please don=92t fight hard clay.

All the best,

Ivor.
