Cindy ,
I have also been using a Sony Mavica. I borrowed it, but would not
hesitate to invest in one. It is the MVC-FD83/FD88. I have noticed they
are on sale and have gone down in price a bit. computer store person
said they may change the technology, soon, so price may drop. I think
they are $600-$700. I actually like the fact you can use a floppy disc
in them. You use a ms-dos formatted floppy. The camera can format the
disk all by itself, though I usually reformat my mac disks on the
computer, to save battery time. The disks work with pc's and of course
since Macs can read anything and everything, the disks work with them
too.
it's very simple and it makes documenting your work so easy and
immediate. Seems that the camera is not finicky about light conditions
either . In fact, it works well with lower light,. Actually overcast
daylight can be too bright, though there are settings to adjust for
that. There is also a macro setting, and auto and manual focusing. I use
the 'fine' setting for quality selection. In general, the file size is
good for printing, but still too large for a webpage photo, so I still
have to run the photos through an editing program to reduce the file
size. Some of the photos which end up on the web aren't as clear as the
original digital photo as a result.
I'm also on the same 'long learning curve' as someone mentioned the
other day, with regard to web publishing, but the camera itself has been
a dream. you get about 90 minutes on each battery charge, and I'd say
15-20 photos per disk. Tonight I put the camera on a tripod for the
first time. will see if that makes the photos even clearer.
happy clicking
