brand new shelf cracked

I have a relatively new kiln shelf (3 months), that has only been fired =
twice - once in an 04 bisque, once to cone 7. I use three posts for =
these round shelves, and this one was my bright shiny one - no glaze =
drips, dings, anything. I went to load it into a bisque last night and =
my husband noticed a hairline crack going straight across 3/4 of the =
shelf - barely visible, doesn't feel cracked to the touch - and now I'm =
wondering if it was defective, or if I did something dumb. It was stored =
in bubble wrap for a month or two (as my "spare"), and since use has =
been stored on end with my other shelves. Any ideas?

Thanks to all who responded about my shelf problem. I thought I'd let =
you all know that I contacted my supplier, who insisted that it couldn't =
be a defect, but who did very graciously offer to send me a replacement, =
gratis.
