Hello Everyone,

Does anyone know of a simple process to finish off a bisque fired piece
without having to fire the piece? ( besides acrylic paint) Something
like using wax with paint in it?

It is the end of the school year and I would like to use clay with my
sixth grade students but fear I will not have time for the second
firing.

Thanks in Advance for your Art Expertise

Hi, The shoe polish idea is a good one!

In addition to that you could put terra sig on the pots and teach the kids
to polish them. This spring I helped our 7th & 8th grade art teacher do a
unit on saw dust firing and terra sig. The kids seemed to enjoy the
process and were pleased with the results.

However, she taught the 6th graders to sculpt people in action. My son
made a mini version of himself about 6" tall walking the dog others did
hockey players, skate boarders, people fishing, reading and so on. After
the bisque she had the kids paint their piece with water colors. This
soaks in and gives a softer look than acrylics would. Some of the kids
left theirs at that point, others used a glaze material. I believe it was
an acrylic glaze purchased from Amaco. The teacher told me it is in her
catalogs so it must be a standard school item.

Good luck with the projects, kids love clay work!
