blue suits and bmw's

I liked the posts by John and Mel. I think they are dead right about
perception. Being right can sometimes be wrong. The Beamers like to buy
from people they believe are successful. A nice suit, a nice car, a
beautiful studio, a full colour brochure, an on and on. Interesting part of
this is -that is what makes them believe it is good. It could be shit on a
stick but if they can afford a suit like that I'm going with the flow.
My experience in the pot game has taught me this- Money does not assume
good taste. The Mercedes guy could buy my ugliest pot (yes, there are
always some uglies) and the old lady in the Neon the pick of the litter.
Another thought for the day- The more money they have, the more important
it is what others think. Give our best radical minds a mitt full of cash
and they will become more conservative than the colour grey.
cheers,
Tony

Shoot, it's sure nice to hear from Tony again.
Concerning the southern Ontario guild, Tony, I think
you know where they can stick your bloated little bottle.

Concerning suit-wearing potters, 'artists' get a pass in
this area. The blue suit manicured set doesn't expect
a potter to wear a suit any more than they expect it
from Carlos Santana, and he does just fine, thank you.
Myself, I'd be pretty suspicious of an American potter
who was wearing a suit (Mel excluded). I want my
artists and craftsmen to be concerned, no, consumed,
with their work, not their appearance.
In fact, if you have the right attitude, looking 'different'
can be a real marketing plus for an artist. It shows that
you are so good and have so much confidence that you don't
need to waste the time dressing for success.

I want potters to survive. They are often the "sharpest knives in the drawer."

It is important that they are paid decently well so they can have food to
live and
good shelter. They can continue to better the planet in their quiet way if
they are sustained.
I wish it didn't boil down to money.

Utopia where no one needs sustenance ain't gonna be here any time soon.
I want the potters to get a decent wage for their creations.

Diane,

The "sharpest knives in the drawer" will survive one way or another.
Evolution says this is true. ;^)
