"steppiing stones" rather than plaster

I had not heard of using wood for the wedging table but did know about
plaster. There is a big wedging table at a center that they poured concrete
instead of plaster and covered it with the canvas. When I started my studio,
a friend offered to build a wedging table. We bought two 18" stepping stones
and he framed the table to those measurements. Then we covered them with
canvas. The wood is 3/4 " plywood and the legs are 2x4's bolted together.
Could have used 4x4 but I already had the other. I guess whatever works and
with materials that you might have on hand. This is heavy and does not 'walk'
when we wedge. Dark clay on one side and white on the other. The splash back
is also plywood and in the center the cut-off wire with the turn buckle for
tautness. I think the height is 33 inches--much less than my kitchen
counters. He would not take money but loves my pottery so it was a nice
barter.
