I used to have a recipe for a bronze wash, cone 10, but I can't locate
it....I remember that it had manganese dioxide.. but what else??? Does
anyone have a recipe like this that they would be willing to share?
Thank you so much in advance!!

Sonya---I have 2 bronze recipes from the Jan-Feb 1999 issue of Ceramic
Review that I've used.
They are thin and do run but have given me some good effects.
Basic Bronze-1200-1260 C
Black copper ox---2.5
Manganese Dioxide---48
China clay---15
Ball clay---12
Bentonite---2
and
Colin Pearson Bronze-1180-1260 C
Manganese dioxide---10
Copper Oxide---1
China clay---1
SMC binder 1%
and this one that i haven't tried: equal parts red clay and manganese
dioxide---apply to dry green ware in several layers or to biscuit. Fire to
1200-1250 C.
Hope these help you. The article by Emmanuel Cooper is good. I can snail
mail it if you are interested.
Good luck

Kayte, are these fired in oxidation or reduction? And did you apply them to=
a
porcelain or stoneware body?

Thank you for sharing.

Nina

The 1st sentence in the article reads "The metallic surfaces on medium to
high-fired stoneware & porcelain fired in an electric kiln can be obtained
in a variety of ways." I have used white stoneware & porcelain slips fired
to ^8 electric with 15-45 minute soaks. Cooling in kiln now is red clay
with bronze. I'm hopeful!

Kayte---in Ok but thinking Go Badgers!
