glazing bowls

I seem to be encountering a strange problem. When I glaze a bowl I slide it
edgewise into the bucket just over half way and repeat with the other half =
to
get a slight overlap. The resulting dried glaze surface looks fine with no
apparent drips or thin spots. After firing, the interior of the bowl is =
usually
perfect while the outside is almost always splotchy and uneven. Some =
guidance
please.
1. What's happening ? 2. How do I fix it ?

How much leatherhard trimming do you do to the outside of the bowls? If
your clay is very gritty, trimming could give a surface that likes to get
blotchey. Do you dampen the pots a bit before dipping? Dampening helps the
glaze go on smoother and helps prevent problems with surface dust repelling
glaze. Give em a QUICK rinse under running water and let them set a few
minutes for the moisture to even out before dipping. You wouldn't have
lotion on your hands, would you?
