Making tools Chris=3B just thought I=92d put this out there. I make the best
wire cut off tools out of Fishing leader.
The best kind to use is the plastic coated stainless twisted wire. You can
buy this wire in all sizes at
Your hometown tackle shop, pick up a pair of crimpers and crimps to use on
the same wire. Now all you
Need is some old washers for the ends of the wire. I like the plastic
coating off it seems to cut better without.
Now you have the best wire ever home made. Good Luck Chris

The best cutoff wire I have used is called =22remote control pull out =
wire=22 that I
bought at the hobby shop. Two strand twisted stainless, great shell pattern,=
no
kinks, =242-=243 per 54=22 with sleeves to crimp. Learned about it from =
Clyde, made up
a bunch and gave them away. Bought more wire and it was seven strand, stiff,=
no
use at all. Darn. If some one finds the two strand kind let me know.

Hi James thanks for the lead on a new wire to try. I will look at the toy
stores around home for this two strand wire it sounds good i.e. the pattern.
The fishing store will also have a single strand stainless type of leader
wire. You could twist up your self check it out. This is the same wire I use
on my wedging table its very nice. Good luck Chris.

The greatest wire is called "tiger tail" it leaves a design, very thin, but
very strong! :)

Dear WireArters; If you contact a medical supply house nearby, they will
likely have stainless steel "ligature wire". This is annealed and soft,
used by dentists to make braces; and is available in many diameters. I use
a range of sizes between .010 and .018 to make twisted pairs, pairs twisted
around a central single wire, etc. Once you have a few small spools (1 oz,
I think) you can afford to be creative; and will be repaid with many new
ideas for slicing pots and cutting them from the wheel or batt. Or you
could just contact me off the List to buy "The Wire Tool" from me. I told
you how to do it, now it's your choice. Hank in Eugene

James, My cut off wire is the wire that is designed for hanging pictures,
quite inexpensive.. I made some stoneware beads for the ends of the wire.
Have about half a dozen cut off wires now, and they are great. The string
variety that is sold by ceramic supply places is worthless in my opinion.

I make all my cutoff wires from .022 gauge piano wire. It will last for
appx. 5000 pots, cut directly from a steel wheelhead. This wire is available
from various hardware stores.

Around here we use braided Stainless Salmon leader, one brand is "Toothy
Critter wire" It comes in various tests (weights) Some of it even comes
covered in nyoln. The Nylon covered type is ok, but soon the nylon
wears off in places and then you want to take it all off, anyway so get
it without the nylon at your nearest fishing tackle shop.

The wire I use is stainless steel leader wire. You can buy it at a
fishing supply store.

I always have used old guitar wire - usually braid three together. Works
great on wedging table or to cut.

Bye the bye, Ivor, thanks for recommending Whitford's and
Wong's "Handmade Potter's Tools." Now, I have plenty to do
when Joan pushes me off the wheel...~jess
