Though I realize that Kansas is generally considered as a culturally
devoid hole, I was wondering if any of my clayart compatriots were in the
area of Kansas in general and near the Wichita area specifically... If so
write back!

John I went to Wichita State University in the 70's. There were quite a
few people that came out of that program that were pretty talented. I
remember Andy Kenyan, married to Pat who has a health food store on
Douglas. A husband and wife team, I think the Smallwoods, did a lot of nice
work. i hear they may still be around. I heard St. John retired recently,
don't know who WSU hired. They have a lot of space in ceramics at WSU,
more than what we had. Staley taught there for a while, I would imagine
there are a few good people around from when he was there. Also i met
Conrad(dont remeber his last name) in Omaha he is and has been Kaneko's
right hand man. Well Conrad is from Newton, KS and when I was at Bemis
in Omaha in 1995 Conrad was itching to get back to Newton, he has a studio
there.
Do you know Dave and Wendy Vertacnik up in Lawremce? Also Anns Holcomb is
the chair of Kansas State in Manhatten.

Devoid Hole!!! It's a good thing I have a great sense of humor. Kansas has
many very good potters I know of one in Herington near Wichita. I am near
KC in a town called Ottawa very near Baldwin City and Lawrence where there
are many other potters. I hope you find what your looking for and I hope
you learn that Kansas is a great place to live.

Now, now. Just tonight my daughter and her husband went to a dinner
theater in Wichita to see Fiddler On The Roof. I am a potter and live close
to Wichita. My husband is a sculpter/painter/retired art instructor. My
sister-in-law has a ceramics studio 28 miles east of Wichita. Evans Ceramic
Supply in Wichita is one of the best supply houses for clay and anything and
everything a clay artist might need. We also have the Wichita Symphony and
all kinds of talented folk. In fact, I think we Kansans are pretty
"artsy". We ain't just Cowboys and Indians ya know, pardner. Connie
