square plates - extrusions

Someone mentioned using extruded forms for supporting the edges of square
slumped plates. I'd been thinking that might work and was glad to hear
about it. It would seem one could get a slight curve that way rather than a
flat line. However, making the slotted form for the extruder is tough if
you don't have special tools or skills.... has anyone ever tried making
such a form out of clay? If it were quite thick, and didn't have to be used
too many times? I suppose one could always just try, but if someone has had
success it would be encouraging to hear. Hopefully, Lesley in welcomely
soggy Santa Barbara.
