Hello, hello!

Was wondering if anyone has the chemical breakdown of Cedar Heights
Salt Lick. Is it a substitute for Goldart, and, if so, how close is it?
Anyone use it before? Is it higher or lower in sulfur content?

Just curious.

Thank you,

Nina,
From the Resco Website:

Cedar Heights Clay Data

The following data is representative of these clay products. Because
these are naturally occurring materials, some variation is expected. This
information should only be used as a guide for selecting a clay.

REDART GOLDART ROSEVILLE SALT LICK

CHEMISTRY
Al2O3 16.4 27.3 23.4 23.7
SiO2 64.2 56.7 60.8 62.4
Fe2O3 7.0 1.4 2.1 1.6
TiO2 1.1 1.8 1.7 1.5
MgO 1.6 0.4 0.2 0.5
CaO 0.2 0.2 0.4 0.2
Na2O 0.4 0.2 0.3 0.1
K2O 4.1 1.9 2.5 3.0
Other 0.1 0.1 0.1 -
LOI 4.9 10.0 8.5 7.0

BOND(psi) 6.0 9.0 7.0 7.0

Fired brick light yellow dark
Color red buff buff buff

P.C.E. 13 27.3 23 23

The key information is the PCE, or Pyrometric Cone Equivalent. The Salt Lick
is more highly fluxed than the Goldart. How much difference this will make
in your clay, I can't say. Also note the lower LOI (loss on ignition). That
may indicate lower sulfur.
