Making and Decorating Functional Pots
Matthew Metz

As one of the pre-eminent potters in the country, Matt works with the wheel
to create a variety of forms in porcelain. In this workshop, he
demonstrates stacking sections on the wheel and hand building with parts
thrown off the wheel. These pots are decorated with a variety of techniques
including sgraffitto, carving and sprigging. Slide lectures and discussions
about the life of a working potter included.
2 sessions:
Thu & Fri, Feb. 24 & 26, 10am-4pm

Matthew Metz, full-time potter in Houston, Minnesota, for 10 years; MFA,
Edinboro University 1985; resident Archie Bray Foundation, 1989-90;
Numerous grants and awards include NEA individual crafts fellowship,
1990 and Ceramic Artists fellowship, McKnight Foundation, 1997.
