kathy's glaze

Ron- one other question now that you have gotten yourself into this. As I
look at Kathy's glaze in the book I notice that she adds 15 percent ferro
3134 if she wants to bring this glaze down to a cone 3 from a cone 6. Would
that make a difference in the expansion?

Kathy's Original #4 cone 6 ox
Dolomite 13
Wollastonite 22
Neph Sye 43
Kaolin 22
----------------------
100 ---see I did it this time--I admit to being a math non-
believer though. ( 'nother story)
plus 15% frit 3134

I sometimes use the same claybody that she uses so I am doing tests using
both your revision and her original in case it is a case of a quirky clay.

Ron's revision

Dolomite 17
wollastonite 18
neph sye 31
silica 8
epk 26
-----------
total 100

I just did some tests of mat and semi matt glazes on a new clay body
(kickwheels raven black) at cone 5 (probably closer to a cone 6) and they
all came out glossy as all get out even the one that I just threw together
with lots of unwashed ash. I think the body is effecting it alot but nothing
ran at least. I am going to do some more tests at varying tempratures.

Hi Celia,

I don't have much time right now - adding that frit will raise the
expansion but I think you should try adding the 15% 3134 and see if
it works. If not send the whole story to me after I get home in a
week.
